Miss Black Teen Atlanta 2012

 HISTORY

The Sparkling Foundation was formed in 1991 by mother and daughter, Mrs. Mariann Couch (bottom photo) and Dr. Sherry C. Adams (top photo).  This organization sponsored the Miss Black Teen Atlanta Scholarship Pageant until 1999.  After a ten year hiatus, the Miss Black Teen Atlanta Scholarship Pageant has come back under the wings of the Women of the Well.

The Miss Black Teen Atlanta Scholarship Pageant is successful because religious, civic, and business leaders recognize the potentials of constructive youth competitions and the youths need for involvement in the community.  This organization will continue to make programs available to people and their communities and develop innovative ways to present personal growth programs and encourage individual and group participation.

The objectives are to highlight the abilities of a specific minority group, help teenagers help themselves, while seeking their highest potentials.  This scholarship pageant has awarded over $125,000 in scholarships to winning contestants.  Recipients have used their awards to attend colleges and universities throughout the nation.

Female students between the ages of 13 –l8, maintaining a minimum of “C” average are encouraged to sign up.  The requirement is low thereby affording a “C” student the opportunity to compete for a scholarship that would ordinarily be difficult.

College scholarships are awarded to the winner of the pageant and the top two runner-ups.  This is based upon the highest combined totals of points in three categories of competitions:  Questions, Talent, and Poise/Evening Gown.

We are happy to state that past Miss Black Teen Atlanta Scholarship Pageants have produced, lawyers, actresses, professional pianist, singers, doctors, professional dancers, college professors, and the list goes on and on.  Our goal in this pageant is not just to produce a winner, but to encourage and set a standard for youth to strive for excellence.  Thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters of The Women of the Well as we continue to try to “Change the World; One Woman at a Time!”
